This season Nev — from Battlers duo Nev and Kell — is perfectly placed to fill the crucial role of the wisecracking knockabout Aussie bloke. Why are only gay men and women the villains on this show? Remember Sophia and Ashlee from and Chloe and Kelly their arch-rivals?
But My Dating Rules judges Manu Feildel, Pete Evans and Colin Feildel have revealed one particular contestant is without a doubt the worst ever to appear on.
The Victorian siblings had been the favourites to win the show’s grand prize going into the current ultimate instant restaurant round. But they had a dramatic night in the kitchen tonight and the stress showed through in their cooking. When Mitch was forced to dash back out to the shops to buy cream, the young cooks lost valuable preparation time for their three-course meal.
The siblings were worried about their fondant setting as they rushed to plate their entrees but luckily it didn’t bother judge Pete Evans, who scored the dish a nine of out The French toast would have been better pan-fried. While their vibrant beetroot risotto was full of flavour, their pheasant was dry and lacked the crispy skin Feildel expected. It was lacking from here. It’s not unenjoyable, but just a little bit dense,” Evans said.
The dramas continued for Mitch and Laura when the pastry for their tart didn’t work out and they were forced to plate up a deconstructed dessert. Even though it’s hard to understand how it could fit in with a caramel tart but on the palate it actually makes sense. After boasting he could cook fish better than a chef at a five-star restaurant, Broome deckhand Josh and his wife Amy had their turn serving a three-course menu on the Seven show last night. Their confidence continued up to the moment they served their first dish of the evening, chorizo-stuffed squid, but things crumbled once the judges started tasting the food. While judge Pete Evans conceded the squid was cooked well, he slammed the accompanying sauce. No love has gone into this.
Both Evans and fellow judge Manu Feildel scored the dish five points. The other teams appeared frustrated by the two-hour wait for the entree to come out and they were made to wait again for the main of beer-battered barramundi with shoestring fries and tartare sauce. Despite it being a relatively simple dish, Josh and Amy had problems with their deep fryer and ended up having to pan-fry the fish without the batter.
While handing out the plates to the other teams, Josh admitted it was the worst fish he had ever cooked. Feildel said the fries were soggy rather than crispy and the tartare sauce did not deserve to be called that because the flavours were wrong.

Last night’s three-course challenge was like chalk and cheese with the South Australian couple, who have been married for 38 years and have 10 grandchildren, facing off against newlyweds Uel and Shannelle. It was the first time returning guest judges Karen Martini, Guy Grossi, Liz Egan and Colin Fassnidge judged the food of this year’s contestants and they had plenty to say about the two vastly different menus. Deb and Rick stuck to old-school family favourites, while Uel and Shannelle finally showed off their heritage with three Asian dishes.
The judges didn’t know what to make of Deb and Rick’s hard bread base for their prawn and avocado tarts and were clearly disappointed they didn’t make their own pastry. Uel and Shannelle had a misstep with their steamed-bun accompaniment to their Singapore chili soft shell crab, but the crab was strong enough on its own.
